Description This is a cover map of the Dominion of Canada in cookfl's "The Crown Atomic", an after action report of the Kaiserreich mod in Hearts of Iron: Darkest Hour hosted in the Paradox Interactive Forums. I highly recommend reading it; the quality of the writing is superb and the extent of the worldbuilding dedicated to the post-Second Weltkrieg KaiserreichΒ setting is immense. You can check it here .

Brief summary of Canada up to this point:

The Royal Family fled to Canada after a Syndicalist revolution kicked them out of the Home Islands following the end of a WWI that lasted three years longer than IRL (for the British). Edward VIII took over after his father's death shortly after their arrival, and also led something of a movement among the young aristocrats of the Empire called the Bright Young Things (BYT).

The BYT basically pushed the blame of kickstarting and exacerbating the Weltkrieg onto their old, prideful parents (aka the "gerontocracy") and advocated for heavy-handed government intervention in the public sphere, the democratic processes of the country, and the economy in order to bootstrap Canada and the Empire back to world power status and, most importantly, prepare both for the liberation of the Home Islands. This meant state capitalism (with very generous welfare systems) on the level of modern-day China, Mounties acting as secret police, and "guided democracy" were the rules of the day. To Edward's credit, it worked well enough, although figures such as Churchill and Mackenzie King were eventually sidelined from politics after causing too much of a ruckus over the new state of things.

Anyway, a decade after Eddie's accession, Canada got to flex its newfound economic and military might, bankrolled by Exile capital, manpower, expertise and industry, during the Second American Civil War. While the Second Coming of the Confederacy was distracted with nomming the Feds in the Great Plains and the Syndies in the Rust Belt, Canada swooped in to nab Michigan, Alaska, and the Panama Canal and establish allies/puppet states in the West Coast and New England.

When Canada was doubly sure its southern borders were secure, it then declared war on Syndicalist Britain, led by Oswald Mosley. The dominion and the rest of the Empire eventually landed on the coast of Wales after an island hopping campaign in the North Atlantic, and after eight months of brutal fighting in the highlands and the streets alike, the Union of Britain capitulated. Reconstruction soon began, with extra emphasis on "Desyndicalization", before the Home Islands were finally granted independence years later as the Dominion of Great Britain.

Fast forward into 1960, and Canada's leading a resurgent British Empire in a cold war with a whole slew of other great powers such as Germany and Japan. While Canada's a world leader in innovation and economy, its hard stance on dissent and the flow of information, plus the fact that elections were basically scripted since the 1930s, means it has quite a few sociocultural issues that may come to a head in the future. There's also trouble brewing in the American Union State, which might spill over to the Great White North and ruin the picturesque society carefully cultivated by the BYT for the past thirty-something years. Nevertheless, it's still a force to be reckoned with, at least for another decade or so, and with even more meticulous planning, its inevitable decline may be delayed for a long while yet.

So when are you going to make a map of Europe in 1936?

KR Europe 1936 isn't a priority right now, sadly. I don't have much free time to work on maps lately, and I'm currently working on something else. That said, I'll wait for 0.9 before planning on making a map fit for the main menu, just in case the devs changed the map of Europe again.

Sucks for both the British and the French tbh. Canada and French West Africa are essentially dog-wagging tails in relation to their respective metropoles. Even worse for Great Britain is the fact that Edward VIII chose to remain in Canada even after the Reconstruction Era.
