Like a great and finely aged wine, Rome has stood the test of time since the collapse of the original Roman Empire, and the establishment of a Byzantine state that continued it's legacy. It has endured hundreds of wars, been the center of scientific, spiritual, and technological advancement, and yet, it hasn't shown any signs of collapse anytime soon. In the modern era, Rome sits on the shoulders of modern states, but it's destiny remains its own, for so long as Rome exists, the people will stride for a better future.
