Ideia para uma nova bandeira de Portugal. As cores de fundo são as cores pré-republicanas (com um diferente tom de azul, usado na primeira bandeira de Portugal de 1095). Ao contrário da anterior bandeira monárquica, as cores foram invertidas na sua posição para simbolizar o fim da monarquia e o início de uma nova república. O símbolo representa um híbrido entre a Cruz da Ordem de Cristo (usado ao longo da vasta história de Portugal) e uma Rosa dos ventos, simbolizando assim os Descobrimentos e a navegação Portuguesa. Ao centro da Cruz da Ordem de Cristo encontra-se o escudo/bandeira do Condado Portucalense, que viria a originar Portugal. Essa mesma cruz azul representa a primeira bandeira de Portugal. O objectivo por detrás desta bandeira é a de representar o maior significado possível da história de Portugal e ao mesmo tempo manter uma aparência simples, fácil de recordar e desenhar (até para crianças), usando apenas 3 cores mas representativas da história de Portugal (à excepção do verde, que apesar de representativo não foi incluído).

Idea for a new flag of Portugal. The background colors are pre-republican (with a different blue hue, used in the first flag of what would become Portugal in 1095). Unlike the previous monarchic flag, the colors were reversed in their position to symbolize the end of the monarchy and the beginning of a new republic. The symbol represents a hybrid between the Order of Christ Cross (used throughout the vast history of Portugal) and a compass rose, thus symbolizing the Portuguese Discoveries and the Portuguese navigation. At the center of the Order of Christ Cross is the shield/flag of the County of Portugal, which would eventually lead to the Country of Portugal. That same blue cross is the first flag of Portugal, in the year 1095. The objective behind this flag design is to present the most meaning out of Portuguese history while at the same time keeping a simple design, reasy to remember and to draw (even for children), using only 3 colors which are representative of Portugal (with the exception of green which, while being representative, was not included).
