A wise and powerful wizard living in the Dark Ages of England, Merlin takes it upon himself to educate Arthur in the ways of the world to prepare him for greatness. A prognosticator by nature, Merlin has seen and traveled to many different points in the future, and knows that Arthur is destined for greatness. He is something of a doddering old man, so while he is wise, he's not always on top of his game, often requiring his pet owl, Archimedes, to keep things in order. Merlin teaches Arthur by transforming him into various animals for each lesson, though things tend to go awry more often than preferred. Ultimately, Arthur is crowned King of England, and Merlin continues to be his guide.

Merlin appears in the Kingdom Hearts series, assisting Sora and his friends in Traverse Town and Radiant Garden. He teaches Sora magic, serves as the unofficial keeper of the Hundred Acre Wood book, and even helps train Kairi and Lea in the use of their Keyblades at the request of Yen Sid.
