Sans and his brother became rulers after the exile of Asgore, because they were the ones who raised a rebellion after hearing the story of Toriel. The first one was, of course, his ambitious and domineering brother, Sans could only follow his wishes and make sure that he did not get hurt. As a result, because of his age, he became the King, but allows Papyrus to be the main one in public, although in fact he declines the laws and punishments. He does not like his regalia, but he meets every human in solemn clothes, because he honors traditions. His T-shirt says "LAZYBONE", this inscription was left by Papyrus when they once quarreled. But Sans didn't wash it. Either he is too lazy, or he has learned some lesson...
