Description
Zamaz-5430 "Stallion"(Update of an older post)
Overview: A classic of the Stranian roads, the ZAMAZ series of truck is manufactured by ZAroMny Automobile Plant (Zamaz). Designed by ZAMAZ founder Vodenka Iliukov in 1966 to fill the void of high-payload and fast trucks for Strania. As most transport previously was done by outdated 4x2 and 4x4 trucks with payloads below six tons. With the only competitor at the time being SIL, with the SIL-122 proved a rival to the ZAMAZ-5430.
Despite this, the Zamaz-5430 exploded in popularity, combining offroad preformance, on-road speed, a powerful engine, and a luxurious cabin for it's time (Although now considered antiquated).
As a byproduct of it's popularity, a wide variety of commercial and aftermarket parts exist for the Zamaz-5430. Including air deflectors, fog and spot lights, fire-safe exhaust conversions, all wheel drive conversions, suspension lifts, sun visors, sleeper cabins, and more.
Although ceasing domestic production in 2012, the ZAMAZ-5430 has and continues to serve the Stranians, with the trucks still being a common sight even into the mid 2020's.
Military service:
While the Zamaz-550 and 551 have seen widespread service through the 1970's-2000's, they have slowly been replaced in favor of Urtal trucks with their superior power, and TAMZ with it's armored cabin. While still in reserves, the days of the Zamaz weaving through tight moutain hills and rolling across desert and steppe may be over.
Design:
The Zamaz-5430 is a 6x4 truck. Powered by engines from the Iakuzna Motor-engine Plant or IaMZ. The truck fills an niche between the typically smaller SIL trucks such as the 120 and 122, and powerful and large offroad beasts of Urtal.
The Zamaz is a cab over truck meaning the cabin lies over the engine. Due to the rearward location of the engine and gearbox, it leaves the cabin with ample room, by the standards of it's day. This location of the engine also provides unparalled access to the engine when the cabin is tilted.
While the Zamaz-5430's cabin is considered antiquated in the modern day, by the standards of it's time it was the most comfortable and well laid out in it's day.
The walls of the cabin are impregnated with an insulating foam and the interior is lined by a selection of leathers or felts. Providing excellent thermal and noise insulation.
Early models of the Zamaz-5430 had no place to sleep other than the seats themselves. While later models of the Zamaz-5430 could select an extended cabin option with a small sleeping space or additional seating. A sleeper cabin was later introduced with further room compared to the extended cabin.
