I know the whole Crystal War stuff has been done months ago, I know I'm late but I wanted to give it a try :v

The Sonic Rainboom never happened. A unicorn filly named Lovely Light never discovered her true self. She just knew she was pretty good at magic, and that was it. Her parents sent her to a magic school, where she became a fairly good student. The more time passed, the more she became a shut-in. She had no idea what her talent was supposed to be. Without her cutie mark, her magic just stayed average and she couldn't perform the most complicated spells the school asked for. She was expelled because her grades just kept getting weaker and weaker. A few mornings later, the news came in: the Crystal Empire had returned.

War quickly waged upon the land of Equestria. The young unicorn's parents contributed to the war effort by giving their gold. Feeling her life wasn't really worth anything since she had no talent whatsoever, Lovely Light volunteered and entered the army of the battle magicians. She trained with them, learning how to use lasers, fireballs, and how to create shields to defend herself. Then she was sent on the battlefield. At first she didn't realized what it truly meant. She kept sending spells without a second thought. It was surrealistic. She was throwing glowing lasers at small dark figures running on snow. It was almost like a videogame.

And one day she was hit by a fireball coming from the enemy's lines, as she was recreating her magic shield. All she remembered was an intense, scorching pain on her face. When she woke up in the infirmary, she realized she had lost her eye. She realized that those lasers she had been sending weren't for show. She realized that those fireballs were hurting other ponies.

She still hasn't told her parents she is now half-blind. They send her a care package every now and then, and every week they send a little letter. She has trouble reading them, but her comrades in arms usually read them out loud for her. Those small moments are the only ones when she feels some sort of happiness in her life. She doesn't have a purpose. Might as well be useful to Equestria this way. If she gets herself killed it means she wasn't useful enough.

What can she do after the war? She doesn't want to know. But in her head she feels that the answer could just be jumping off a cliff.

She doesn't have children. She doesn't have a dream friend by her side. She doesn't have a destiny.
Her name is Lovely Light.
