Description
IF YOU USE THIS TUTORIAL, SHOW ME WHAT YOU MADE WITH ITI developed this technique to make hair for sculptures because it is too difficult to find it to buy where I live, and if I find, there isn't the color I wanted... I am pretty sure there is more people with the same problem!
This is an easy way to make hair for your sculptures/ dolls! Of course isn't that good than synthetic hair, but is better than nothing. Ribbon can be found in a good amount of colors.

In case you were curious, the horizontal lines making the ribbon is called the "weft threads". The vertical lines are called the "warp threads".

Not 100% done XD being that this is a test, I found it was easier for me to do thinner width ribbon

Hahah! Great!
But you decided not to make it straight? I can see the little waves on the hair, but it doesn't look bad

However I might see if I can use an iron on it instead (on the lowest heat) because it's kind of hard for me to use my hair drier with this (it's not really as flat as the one shown)

yeah I didn't feel like pulling out the hair drier XD Again this was mostly a test for the pony. I want to try some other ribbon later though

vonBorowsky In reply to DreamCrystalArt [2013-04-01 17:08:30 +0000 UTC]
It is coming up very nice! I see you made a mix between two colors and it was very cool. You are using that needle for hairing to do it with the ribbon?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DreamCrystalArt In reply to vonBorowsky [2013-04-02 00:17:35 +0000 UTC]
Yep two colors xD I was hoping the gold color would come out a little more transparent but it didn't lol (that is what I get for hoping threads on translucent ribbon were actually translucent XD)
I'll be using a homemade tool that I use for rehairing my MLPs with doll hair... which pretty much is a needle with the eye cut and a 4-way clutch hobby knife handle XD
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
vonBorowsky In reply to DreamCrystalArt [2013-04-04 15:27:05 +0000 UTC]
Ahh yes, on translucent ribbon the threads aren't translucent too XD
But is looking good that way
Oh really? That really works? I had the same idea to make a homemade tool XD

DreamCrystalArt In reply to vonBorowsky [2013-04-05 01:15:43 +0000 UTC]
it works for both doll hair and yarn A lot of people in the doll and mlp customizing community either buy their's or make them. It's really useful in making the job go faster, but keep in mind you'd still have to glue the hair from the inside of the doll's head xD Most of my custom mlps are done that way

vonBorowsky In reply to DreamCrystalArt [2013-05-25 18:42:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you for the info!

DreamCrystalArt In reply to vonBorowsky [2013-05-26 00:19:00 +0000 UTC]
on another note, I did almost finish a pony with the ribbon hair... I couldn't get the iron to remove the ridges but that was probably due to it being so long
[link] I thought I had them uploaded on my Photobucket but I guess not x.x So I uploaded them again to my Sta.sh XD Some people liked the idea so I did link them to your tutorial
