Description
Here it is, at last - a 14 page book with instructions on designing your own patterns for soft sculpture pony manes and tails! This is the question I'm asked about most when it comes to pattern-making, so hopefully this will help beginners out quite a bit. It covers the basic shapes and techniques you'll need to recreate most mane shapes and includes a photo walkthrough guide to pattern draping.
Enjoy!

Wow, this is awesome! I've been trying to make some ponies as gifts, and the manes have been giving me trouble for far too long.
(One of the friends I'm making them for actually linked me to this tutorial before I even saw it in my inbox. )

I like how your tutorial touches on other techniques that can be used outside of making manes for ponies. I wouldn't have thought of Pinkie's mane like that, but now that I think about it, it does definitely make her mane more characteristically poofy. Thanks for the tips!

Awesome!
Here's a small question for you- When you have a Pony with a rather "Different" Mane Style and the hair would cover one eye.... (you'd have to see the character to understand....) Would i have to make a hole Free for the ear? or could i just go around the ear with some Strange idea/pattern whatnot?

I would just get rid of the ear period if it's your own OC. Ponies generally don't work that way in the show, at least that's what I've seen.
Otherwise, why not just sew the ear on the mane? or half on the mane and half on the head?
