Description
Rats often get a reputation as dirty, conniving, evil creatures in fantasy settings like Redwall or D&D, but in reality rats are cleanly, intelligent, and social creatures. So I figured, why not make some properly advanced medieval rats (at least, advanced by the standards of their setting)? As I've worked on my little series of Medieval Animal paper miniatures, I've begun to develop a setting for them, set in the land of Elhorn. In Elhorn, the Rats are one of the more advanced civilizations, building large cities and developing greater weapons and armor (like crossbows and plate armor) than their neighbors. They're not evil by any means, but they're also not exactly "good" either--they have a very feudal society, which typically places Rats at the top and the smaller, more agrarian Mice at the bottom. However, this feudalism has allowed them to unite a great many cities under one kingdom, making them much more powerful than their neighbors (who're a mix of disparate clans and city-states) and providing security for their citizens and visitors.
As usual, printable files for these and other of my minis can be found HERE. (Including alternate colors in blue and green!)
