Description
Danny was having a bad day. Being bullied, on top of having failing grades, and being responsible for keeping ghosts in check - ghosts that escaped through your parents’ own portal - he was tired and depressed. He buried his face in his hands. “I can’t take it anymore.”
Sam and Tucker, who’d been sitting beside him, put their arms around him to comfort him.
He hugged them back, trying to hold back from crying, and only letting a few tears fall.
“There, there, Danny.” Sam said. She wasn’t all that good at comforting, but she awkwardly stroked his back with one hand.
“We’re still here for you, bud!” Tucker said. He gave Danny a thumbs up when he was sure his friend was looking.
“Thanks, guys.” Danny said. He wiped away his tears, immediately embarrassed for showing his emotions.
“How about we do something to cheer you up?” Sam offered. “How about ice cream?”
Danny sniffed and nodded. “Ice cream sounds great.”
The trio of friends walked over to an ice cream stand. But it turned out all the ice cream was gone.
Danny immediately suspected a ghost. “A ghost has got to be behind this…” he muttered. But the ice cream vendor shook his head.
“No, we’re just all out. We’ve been selling all day.”
Danny looked crestfallen. “Oh.”
“Maybe tomorrow?”
“Yeah…”
The black-haired boy’s friends wrapped their arms around his shoulders as they walked away.
“Sorry about the ice cream,” Tucker said. Sam agreed, and voiced a similar sentiment.
“Maybe we can cheer you up some other way?”
Danny shook his head. “Nah. I’ll just go home. I have a ton of homework to catch up on.”
Sam put a hand on her hip. “Danny. You know we’re not going to give up until we find /some/ way to cheer you up.”
He walked forward, her hand slipping away from his hip, where she’d been holding him. Stubbornly, she walked up to him.
“Danny…”
He looked at her in a resigned way. “Forget it Sam, there’s nothing you can do.”
“Oh?” She raised an eyebrow, and grinned. “Really?”
Danny got a nervous smile on his face. “Heh! Y-yeah, really…!”
She wiggled her fingers at him. Oh boy…
Danny backed away, but he wasn’t fast enough. His friends tackled and tickled him on the ground, watching him roll around laughing until tears started rolling down his cheeks. “HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! YOU GUYS! STAHAHAHAHAP IT! AHAHAHAHAHAHA!”
Afterward, Sam helped him up.
“You feeling better now?”
“Yeah,” Danny admitted, still smiling and catching his breath. “Thanks.” He gathered up his things, and put his back pack on. In his eyes there was a playfully mischievous spark that said, ‘I’m so getting you guys back for this!’
