Spoiler-free description: A quiet young boy being raised within the Lunma Corporation by Eileen Lunma herself. Mathis's origins are not known -- he was found huddled in a corner with his Sableye following a big-scale explosion during an experiment led by Lunma Corp. in the month of February.
After much debate as to what to do with the Sableye, since no such creature was ever seen in the region before, Mathis's complete refusal to do anything without his Pokémon has led to both of them being mostly left outside of experiments and research.
Eileen Lunma has taken quite an interest in Mathis, due to his sudden apparition in the research facility and his powers.
Indeed, he is a Type-6 Atypical. His left eye, although hidden by his hair most of the time, is of a bright golden color and can discern the auras of living beings. This ability is similar to Jia Qiang's, but Mathis's is much, much more powerful, as it allows him to see even invisible creatures as well as the true form of shapeshifters.
Mathis doesn't talk much to people (besides Eileen and his Sableye) and tends to stay away from social contact in general, despite Eileen's efforts to have him socialize with other kids his age. He however tends to pop up unexpectedly near people he has taken an interest in. Even though he doesn't openly show it, he has an enormous amount of respect and love towards Eileen Lunma and sees her as a mother figure for him.
He and Sableye are mostly inseparable, and the boy rarely keeps the Pokémon in a Poké Ball outside of public places where Pokémon are not allowed to run free.

Trivia: The clothes depicted here are a bit different from his usual outfit: When going outside, he generally wears a black long-sleeved coat over his vest.
