Thanks. No, they are actually that dark. I layer the marker till it's stark black, then spray it with fixative to solidify and bolden the black even more...

...spraying it with fixative after layering the black solidifies the black so there is no mark strokes in the blacks. Just regular black markers - sharpie or what have you.
