Description

This is part of the alt-history project Roses, Tulips, and Liberty (RTL). RTL is an ongoing timeline project with a point of divergence in the 17th century, centered around the premise of a different pattern of colonization in America, indirectly leading to drastic changes in other parts of the world. SYNOPSIS

After centuries of Russian control, the Alyeskans have finally taken charge of their own fate.

Over decades of National Republican rule from Moscow, discontent was already simmering in a region on the fringes of Russia. The Alyeskans have grown weary of distant European control, with Russian governance viewed as exploitative and indifferent to local aspirations. By the late 1970s, with the political turmoil in Russia, and growing power of the North American bloc of nations, the stage was set for the quest for Alyeskan independence.

In February of 1978, a coup was staged in the Alyeskan capital of Novo-Arkhangelsk, and independence was unilaterally declared. Russia was quick to send in troops to quell the uprising, but the Association of North American Nations (ANAN) stood in solidarity with their Alyeskan brethren, shortly followed by swift advances to challenge Russian control.

This is a heavily condensed version of the story. Read more about it in detail on the RTL wiki pages:
