Description Ink and wash on paper.

Transcript of my annotation:

"Throughout this sketchbook, images of fences have been a recurring feature of my drawings. I feel that they represent the complete opposite of what is associated with nature, and the moors. Man-made and restraining against he backdrop of greenery and the beauty of nature. I like the simplicity of their form.
This was the last of my sumi-e experiments in that sitting, and it's my favourite of all of them. I first drew the shape of the fence's shadow in water, before using ink to draw the fence itself - hoping that the shadow would draw itself when the ink bled. It didn't quite work how I saw it, so I blotted it, used more water, and worked the excess ink into a soft background that complimented the dominating image in the centre."

I love the style. How its clean and yet messy at the same time and this seems to add a subtle balance to the picture.
