This is a painting of my friend Jemma, done for her birthday. I quite like it, although the photograph here is not as good as the real thing. She is a wonderful girl, and our relationship is quite curious but she has helped me through some dark times. So I painted this because I felt she deserved the effort, and indeed it turned out to be my most worked on painting yet. Getting the hair right was very difficult, but I think it works well. The hands are supposed to have a sinister edge, they want her because she is beautiful. However, do they want to caress and protect her because she is beautiful, or destroy her because of jealousy? I'm not sure, but I do imagine if they ever reached her (which they will not) it would not be a good thing. Acrylic on paper.
