A portrait of one of my best friends, Nicola. For christmas, as this year, christmas was quite an occasion for her. Her birthday is in January, so this is sort of, a replacement for that. I dont usually get my friends christmas presents, its just a family thing for me. Acrylic on thick paper.
He face was difficult to do, it started off as montone (ala The Jade) burnt umber but this had the effect of making her look extremely old. So I had to gradually lighten her up with pink/white washes on top. The background is very textured, notice the water runs flowing left. This was done by rotating the picture (obviously) and then getting extremely wet and textural. I think it works.
I apologise for the bad picture, the real thing is a lot better, the colours fit better and her face is less whited out and more even. Yada yada. I do need to invest in a quality camera.
As for the likeness, a very good likeness according to everyone.
