It's older work but I've a bug up about posting it. So I am, hehe. Models were made in Rhino3D, Rendered (in passes) in Bryce and a bunch of Photoshop attention.*makes note to get bugs sprayed*

Whoa. Yeah. I'm ashamed of my own work, now. That matchbox is so real I could almost reach into my monitor and pick it up.. but I'd cut my hands on the glass and prolly get electrocuted, so I won't try.
I prefer the first render to the second.. the second is amazing, but I'm fascinated with the matchbox. Particularly the slight bends in the cardboard of the box.
Reminds me a lot of the older work I used to do. I used to enjoy modelling mundane objects to try for realism. You've succeeded with flying colours.
Time to go explore the rest of your work, methinks.

holy crap, this is great
i love the glass effect, the effing attention to detail, and of course the over all thing is just great
also, that's an original subject, i guess, i mean i've seen a wastedyouth photoshop tutorial on cigarettes, but having it in an ash tray, rendered, smoking, and with the match box, it's just excellent
this is gonig into my favorites

nice render, and i think that you actually used bryce for this painstaking process of testing, modelling, testing again etc. deserves some points.
however, inconsistency nr. 1 - shadows. in the ciggy part, they're too sharp. soften 'm a bit and that'll be no problem anymore regarding realism.
nr 2: use something like a bump / displacement map for the wood texture. it'll spread the shadows even more, and you'll get rid of the 'cleanroom polished wooden table' idea.
and further - great work on the texture of the matchbox. might want to add some bump to the parts on the sides (after all, they do stick out a bit), but it's well done already. good work on the details of the cardboard paper. i agree with thefaun about the realism of the smoke. try to make it less crumbled, more flowing, a bit more transparent and blue-dark grey-ish around the edges.

Thats awesome!! Increadible attention to detail!! The only thing i could possibly say is lacking realism is the smoke, but thats bloody impossible to get right anyway!!

beautiful work, very very very very impressive.. my suggestions are to 'curl' the burnt part of the match slightly and make the 'shadow' of the ashtray a little less crisp.. this is only nitpicking though, great work.. really great.
