Description
PROMPT #1
- The Lakeside Humane Society is out looking for feral and stray animals! If your character is in one of those two districts, watch out for the vans and traps. Will you get caught? If so, how will you escape? Has anyone you know been caught yet? And, most importantly, will you lose your jewels?
- Draw, write, or roleplay your character’s reaction to the news. Alternatively, you may depict your character having a run-in with the Lakeside Humane Society or their traps.
The late afternoon sun warmed Gale's back as he made his rounds about the territory. Fiery colors surrounded the tom as Autumn was in full swing. Though he had no task he took to doing what he had been primed to do his whole life- guarding the Felis Ferals. He was a son of Boulder after all, it would be blasphemy if he did not do his part to protect his District- at least that was what he had been told his entire life. Earlier in the week the Pharaoh warned the district to be on the lookout for more intruders, especially humans. Despite his fear and strong hatred of humans, he took it upon himself to take up more patrols. Gale had yet to run into any issues on these patrols, for the most part they had just been mere strolls with the occasional territory marking here and there. Today was going to be different, and not in a good way.
As Gale neared The Cedar a shift in the wind made his fur stand on end. Something was wrong here. Very wrong. Lifting his head in the air Gale paused his patrol, sniffing the air with whiskers twitching. There was a strange scent in the air and for some reason the very smell brought a wave of anxiety over him. Why was this scent so familiar? It scared him deeply. Before he could ponder the smell more, however, a crashing through the underbrush snapped Gale back to the present. His eyes widened as a tall, gangly human with a net broke through the underbrush. A hiss escaped his maw as he and the human's eyes met. Now Gale remembered the scent well, from times he thought long behind him. His very first memories were in the Lakeside Humane society, his mother and father had been captured by the humans shortly before he was born. For most of his kittenhood he grew up in the confines of a prison. Just the thought of humans sickened him, hence why he kept them far from his mind. Now that he was face to face with yet another one, he knew there was only one thing he could and should do.
Suddenly the human made a move to capture him and Gale's instinct kicked in, immediately he darted out of the way of the net. Though he was slower than many cats he was definitely still faster than a human. Dashing through the undergrowth of the forest Gale began to run, the human was fast on his trail. As Gale ran through the thickets and weaved his way around the trees his knowledge of the forest managed to help him put distance between himself and his pursuer. A bright patch in the trees showed a clearing up ahead, Gale's eyes narrowed as he attempted to go even faster. Breaking into the clearing Gale spotted a tree with the leaves still covering most of the branches and without hesitation he dashed up it, hiding amongst the leaves as he watched the ground below.
Leaves crunching and twigs snapping broke the silence as the human finally made it into the clearing as well. Moments passed as the human paused in the clearing, glancing around as he searched for Gale. The tom held his breath and held as still as he could in the branches of the tree. He refused to go back to that prison the humans kept him and the others in all those years ago, even if it cost him his life he would risk it all just to never go back to that place. The sound of footsteps beneath him snapped Gale back to the present, the human seemed to have given up his search for the Feral tom as he began to head back towards the outskirts of the territory.
Gale remained frozen, watching the creature carefully as he disappeared. He stood still long after the human was gone, until it was growing dark. Finally after what seemed to be at least an hour Gale let out a shaky sigh. This is what their Pharaoh had warned them of, but why did the humans want to capture them? Gale certainly did not want to find out. I have to warn Mallow and the others...they're getting too close. He thought with a nervous twitch of his whiskers. After a quick stretch he made his way down the tree carefully before disappearing into the shadows of the evening woods. The humans had already come close to The Cedar, who knew how deep into the forest they were willing to chase them?
