Clearly, I'm going to start needing to join FFVII groups.
I am a huge proponent of the Sephiroth-is-Vincent's-son faction. But even if he is really the bastard spawn of Hojo, it would be awesome if Vincent rescued the kid from a lifetime of suffering. So here you go!
After a couple years in that stupid coffin he breaks out and rescues his maybe!son and then realizes that he has no idea what to do with the kid. Yay! I didn't really think it past that...

Even if there's no way in hell I could be convinced the poor old V. Valentine could actually have a child, I absolutely agree that he could have been less of an offended princess and could have actually bothered to help raise the boy.

For a while I actually thought Vince and Sephi were brothers, just because of Lucrecia's relationship with his dad. So confusing... but I guess Final Fantasy has always been that way hasn't it.

I'm kinda confused about Jenova cause I never played that particular game, but I always thought Lucrecia experimented on Sephi the same way she did with Vince. She stimulated Jenova inside of Sephi. But again, I'm kinda in the dark about what happened.

Yeah, she did... I think Hojo was supposed to have done most of the experimentation, though, so fanon opinions vary.
Yeah, I'm playing through it for the first time and it's pretty fun. (Except I really want Vincent but I can't beat the monster to get to him...)

I too am a supporter of the idea. Very much so.
My head-canon simply put: L is a bit more in the dark about the Jenova project than most think. V and L sleep together, L finds out she's pregnant, doesn't tell V, H drugs/rapes L, she wakes up in bed with nothing more than a fuzzy memory of her "willingly" sleeping with H. V is heartbroken, but L let's everyone think it's H's to allow "cancer research" to be done on the kid. V let's it go by, make her happy, blah.blah,blah. L dies, shit goes down.
God I'm lazy.

Kind of, we RPed a lot and stuff like that came up very often. My sister made certain characters, just to fit in those stories. I did write a short(unfinished) one shot that I got cold feet on due to the fact some of my ideas have been rejected rather vehemently by other fic-writers and rpers. So I'm not too open about sharing the whole back-story.

Heh, I can see why you like Izure, then. I always believed canon (that and Sephiroth has enough similarities to Hojo, people just... opt not to see them ;3), but toying with the idea (ESPECIALLY FOR THE SAKE OF INCEST *coughcough*) can be rather entertaining.

Honestly, the biggest issue I have with people who think Vincent is the father is asking them when they thought Vincent and Lucretia actually did it. In Izuremata, they were both rather inebriated, and she was planning on taking advantage of him. (But these changes were made with some... tweaking... in the timestream.) I just say that in canon, Lu didn't like Vincent like that. There was some mutual attraction, but in FFVII it's implied she kind of thought he was a creeper, and DoC beat us over the head that she was all guilty over Grimoire's death and distanced herself from Vincent on purpose. I just don't think they ever got to bonking.
However, if you want to believe that Vincent's genetically involved, the only explanation I can come up with is if Hojo pulled an Amanda Waller on himself. (Look her up and the Batman Beyond Project.) But he's so self-important I doubt he'd have done that anyway.
I guess people just don't want to accept Lucretia was a willing participant in the experiments and is actually a bit more like Hojo than it appears. I usually call her Hojo-liteβshe's willing to do more than your average moral scientist, but she's not quite as callous. (I mean, maybe I embellish a little headcanon into it, but she probably had the intention of helping raise the child before Hojo took him from her and she realized her mistake.) That and hey, in FFVII Hojo did look different; he even had shorter hair. (I don't know why in DoC they made past!Hojo look like present!Hojo except that Vincent is embellishing his own memories.)
If it's about genetics, 99.9% of what Sephiroth looks like comes from Jenova. Any of Hojo's influence probably got overwritten by Jenova-ness. But his personality actually does hold some similarities to Hojo's, specifically when it comes to what went down in Nibelheim and the development he had of those complexes. He also seems to imply that he knows Hojo is his father. (And maybe I'm not bothered by it because I love Hojoβwell, y'know, for writing sick labfics. It's kinda fun. X3)
That's my mentality, anyway.

I've read fics on all ends of the spectrum, and the ones that really resonate as closer to canon seem to be the ones where Lucrecia is definitely a willing participant. She is in no way innocent... but she did see the results and realize that maybe, just maybe there was something very wrong with what she'd done.
Fics like yours are very much butterfly-effect ideas; another fantastic one is Valentine's Day by Umei no Mai. The great thing about the Hojo/Lucrecia/Vincent relationship is that just one little change can create a convincing story, whereas most other fics there's quite a bit more fanon stretch to achieve similar results.
