inever got the significance behind why Omega is such a powerful word. its just the last letter in the greek alphabet...

It has to To do with The passage "I am Alpha and Omega, I am the beginning and the end". So Omega is just to another way to say "The End", as in death.

then why is it so commonly used in reference to specific objects or characters?

it's sort of like saying those object or characters are "The End" of people who come in contact or fight thies thing

The word Omega also has meanings like "the last, the end, or the ultimate limit"

nice avvie. for 'last' and 'end' those are derived from the fact that its the last letter in the greek alphabet. what confuses me is how the last one came into being.

Anyway Im not sure it mite stem for the Bible cas whats his face er Jesus or God said that he is the Alpha and The Omega which is the first and last latter of Greek alphabet but its interpreted as he is saying that he is the Beginning and the End Thus the Alpha has the meaning of the Beginning and Omega is the end.
Im not 100% sure but the Greek alphabet sure has the coolest letters

I think that it's just the association with the finite, the ending of things, that makes Omega a powerful word. Aside from that, the other thing I can draw from it off the top of my head is the word "mega", which needs no explanation. It might not have to do with ancient languages or the like, but it helps modern associations with word meanings.

hmmm Dunno Im sure theres something more to it.
Maybe people use the fact that it means the end it can be used as the word final something for example in one of the Final Fantasy games theirs an optional boss called Omega I think its to say it is the end and most powerful to the limit there isnt anything more powerful ....if u get what I mean 
but u gotta admit its a pretty epic sounding word ^^

well despite it being a part of their alphabet the letters have meanings and significance and omega just happens to mean the end. And just like everything that means the beginning and the end it's going to leave some allure so I don't think it should be that confusing...but how the greek alphabet was described to me was confusing itself so I think if you better understood it I think you would better understand the gravity of it's meaning.
