Description

Has anyone played Papers, Please? It's really fun--love the look, love the game, love the world, love the names. This is some pseudo-fanart. I've been working on a story that doesn't have much to do with the game but it's set in-world. Of course it features another sad, abused teen boy because... well, I was a sad, abused teen boy. A quick summary is below if you want to read (sorry for such a long description)!

Tomas Parakov is a Kolechian boy who moved to Arstotzka with his father before the Six-Years War. His father got a job with the Ministry of Trade managing overseas imports. When war broke out, his father was approached by a Kolechian organization about smuggling bombs over ships. This was discovered by the government, and his father fled the country. Tom arrived home one night to find the flat completely torn apart by the police, their documents confiscated, and no sign of his father. Out of fear of his own arrest and a drive to find his father, Tom tries to find refuge in Obristan with his aunt--which means getting across the extremely strict border without a passport.

Meanwhile, Dr. Peter Chu is mourning the death of his wife Julia Jakobsen. Soon after they finally managed to conceive, Julia was tragically shot and killed at her administrative job in Arstotzka. The gunman was a Kolechian terrorist who had attempted to assassinate an Arstotzkan official, inadvertently setting off the war. Peter has continued working at the public hospital but is entirely grief stricken.

While trying to make it to the border, Tomas gets caught in the cold overnight and is found with hypothermia. He is taken to the hospital and put under the care of Peter. When Tom is discharged, Peter insists on taking him in to ensure he recovers. He sees a report about Tomas's father and finally learns of Tom's history. Determined not to let another death occur on his watch (and seeing the young man for what his child could have been), he decides to sacrifice his life in Arstotzka to help Tomas escape to Obristan.
