● History: Rust was born in the poor part of town. Their house was battered, they were robbed often, and broke constantly. He lived with his mother, just as busted as that old, gloomy house. Whether they would eat another night was a gamble, literally, for the single parent hadn't worked a day in her life, an addict of gambling, and a few other things. Her and her son's relationship, however, was decent, until mommy got a new boyfriend.
He came into their lives when Rust was only 12, swept his mother off her feet with promise of income, and food on the table for her and her son. "He was a blessing in disguise," she would always describe him, but for the small boy, he was the devil. Rust was treated poorly by the man, abused and belittled, threatened with death had he ever opened his mouth about anything that he did. His mother knew, even when it first started, she knew. The single day Rust had snapped and gone to her to confess the wrongs her boyfriend had done, she silenced him—told him not to speak about it ever again, not when that man in particular was the one putting food on the table. She played oblivious, and Rust took it, for years until he could no longer. He snapped, worse this time, and fought back, nearly put an end to the life of what his mother deemed "a blessing." He nearly killed him, and if the man were to recover, he himself would be dead at his hands, so he knew he couldn't stay.
