Oh... and tutorials can be your best friends. Don't be afraid to look around for the ones that can teach you how to make things look cooler.
I have one laying around somewhere on just how to do clouds in Photoshop. That type o' thing.

Man.. enough people think it's badass that I don't know what you need me for. I think the dynamic gesture of the pose is perfect for Sonic.
The right leg could maybe stand to be a little thicker... just to match up with the left leg.
The only thing I could think of that I'd maybe do differently is I'd probably go in and draw the background and then to get that 'distance' that you're going for, just select the background and play around with blur filters.
All and all a good pic though.

My advice is to surround yourself with artwork by people you admire. Then you can start to figure out what you like about each artist and incorporate it into your style.
Example: I get alot of inspiration from watching Jim Lee draw (like the vid links on my journal) and looking at his stuff helps to remind me that I want to be able to draw perfect anatomy and so I start to pay more attention to detail. I also admire Joe Maduiera and having his stuff around reminds me to stay loose and to darken in the borders of my characters. Same thing with Scott Campbell. It's all personal preference though.
'crispness' can come from sketching out your drawing beforehand and then erasing the miscellaneous lines you don't need while darkening the ones you want to keep.

Aww... Did I miss the point of the question? I don't know anything that would help you improve tenfold overnight. It's all about practicing and developing your skill. I'm currently enrolled in classes that force me to draw or I fail, so it's more of a do or die situation for me. Maybe that's what you need! Maybe you'd start to get better faster if you weren't just drawing for fun, but had to do it to achieve an important grade or something.
Another thing that gets me off my ass is that I'm taking that trip next year and I know I need to improve before I go so the trip isn't wasted.

It definately helps man. Most all of the progress I was trying to show you guys with that Cloud pic I did came from me going to school and taking classes that forced me to draw.
