I imagine if anyone actually played that, it'd be more along the lines nothing but straight drinking until you throw up/pass out/die as opposed to just taking a shot every few passages; perhaps the process could be sped up by putting the text from the book on the buttom of the bottle. That way, you could prevent the inevitable whiplash of contantly jerking your head back to drink and letting it fall back down to continue reading.
This kinda reminds me of the Yu-Gi-Oh drinking game; whenever someone mentions the word 'friendship,' take a drink.
