Description
Here's another collaboration I did with my daughter. She drew this several years ago, but I still think her shapes are very strong and dynamic. I'm experimenting with textures and different styles and copying some of my kids line art is a good exercise in focusing on the colors and form. I have a lot of fun trying to learn from the creative minds around me. I hope you guys can enjoy this a little bit too. Thanks for taking the time to look at this.

Ach, I'm so bad with commenting on pictures, which I have already commented on in my head but had to put aside for lack of time. Anyway, here we go. I am absolutely in love with this little piece of art. Mainly because of the colors and the subtle textures that you used here. The shape is brilliant too - which is just kids for you, I guess. They are so much better at reducing their subject of drawing to its very essence and still keep it funny and charming. But in all fairness you translated that wonderfully into something of your own. Especially the negative light blue lines that make up the birds wing and his beak as well as the slight raggedness of the birds outline work fabulously! And maybe I also adore this little fellow because he strongly reminds me of a book from my childhood: "Frederick" by Leo Lionni.

Ha! I do the same thing, in fact I had a great reply to your comment in my head a week ago. I always have good intentions of getting back to someones work with something smart to say... it just doesn't always happen. Anyways, thanks for your kind feedback and even more for the reference to the childhood book. I love the careful simplicity of those illustrations. That book reminded me in turn of one from my childhood: Snowy Day, by Ezra Jack Keats. Being able to simplify and tell a story without all the clutter is a real art. One that doesn't come easy for me. It's something I really admire in other peoples art. Not every story would work well with this treatment, but I really enjoy it when it's done right. Thanks again for your comments.

You are most welcome. Fearless use of color in "Snowy Day" btw. (had to google it); bright red and orange is pretty much as far removed from anything I associate with snow as possible. I like that!

I love that it is every bit the original drawing in form and whimsy, and the color and texture are beautiful!

Yeah, I've tried to improve on the shapes, but I really love this bloated design. It's really fun. I'm glad you liked it.

Amazing textures and great interpretation of her design! Your color choices add sort of a sophisticated yet childlike quality. (I'm not sure if sophisticated is the right word but oh well)
Is this a digital piece?

Thanks. Yes it is digital. I basically just colored her drawing in photoshop.

Hun, your child is the most BRILLIANT one I am ever fortunate to witness her drawings. (does that make ANY sense?) Other than that: I LOVE IT!

No problem. Her drawings are the kind that makes me feel, well, happy. Every once in a while it's ok to look at simple piece of art and appreciate it.

And the fact that my tired brain can easily figure out what it is, is nice as well
