Description
and, here's Dawn's encounter with the beast from the swamp. Her story goes a bit differently, as what she saw was actually pretty easy to think of~ considering there's only one thing she fears- however, she also loathes this particular creature as well, and would rather fight than flight. So, here's her story~
---
After Dawn’s encounter with the pippets and not having any luck there, she decided to go investigate the creature in the swamp. Avalon was kind enough to loan her a lantern for her trip, so long as she brought it back of course, so at least she’d be able to approach this creature with some sort of light. Though, no comfort came from the description of the creature, especially form those who’ve already encountered it.
Nevertheless, Dawn perused the idea and was determined to make some more coin to be able to finance herself a bit; definitely having to look into some kind of side hobby or job she’d be able to do alongside this study of magic and knighthood. It took a good few days to reach the swamp, pretty much sticking to the main roads and only stopping to gather food, rest, or speak with a passersby; though, the closer she got to Marshgrave, the more horrifying the stories about the creature became.
Beginning to doubt herself, Dawn wondered if this would be best left to a more experienced knight or mage, one who might know some defensive magic or some kind of weapon of courage. Heck, perhaps she should have waited until she had a sword, or something more than a lantern. Though, perhaps she was just working herself up over nothing; maybe she could just scare the creature off with facing her fears? Yeah, that made a lot of sense.
In any case, by time she made it to the swamp, night had fallen once more, though the light of the moon was full and made her path clear. The lantern did its part as well, giving light where the moon could not, reaching past the branches of the trees that were eerily bare for the time of the year. After a while, Dawn actually began to wonder if she had the right swamp, since surely she should have seen or heard something by now; but all that reached her ears was the quiet ambiance of your typical forest and the shadows that flickered with the light of the lantern.
Though, perhaps she was just used to this sort of setting, considering she came from Riddleock, which forests were far scarier than this. Least, to her they were. Granted, she at least knew what was in those woods that could harm her, here, the fear was more set on the unknown, as the marsh seemed almost devoid of natural life. Something had to live there though, so she rested her fears on the thought that the pouflons in the area were just getting scared of their own shadows.
She paused for a moment to set her lantern down, looking around with a bit of a frown on her face for having come this far, only to have encountered nothing at all. It was a disappointment really, and she was pretty sue she wouldn’t get paid for it either. However, as she debated about going back to Goldfair to tell that mage pouf about his monster being just a bunch of camp fire stories, she turned to spot something just in the distance.
Flaring her wings out defensively, Dawn narrowed her eyes on the creature whom silhouette was outlines by a slight orange glow. It took her only a moment to recognize the glint of red from such a distance, but undoubtedly she knew who it was without a second thought. Of course, in her blind rage, she’d never realize this was just an illusion of the one who killed her parents, not the actual blood pouflon; but her deepest fear was also her greatest hatred, so there would be no fleeing tonight.
Unarmed in an a blind fury, Dawn rushed forward, striking at the pouflon with all that she had; though it made no difference, as the closer she got to him, the further away he seemed to be. This only frustrated her more, but before she could see it coming, she was thrown back by some strange force, injuring her leg having landed on it poorly.
In a matter of seconds, she felt that fear of being overcome once more by whom she dreaded most, but the strangest thing happened. From the shadows of the creature, she made out another figure, this one coming towards her and crowned in a strange light. A part of her recognized the pouflon, but before she could say or do much of anything, a blinding light came out of nowhere and struck the blood-eyed pouflon.
Vaguely, she recalled hearing a scream, though it might have been her imagination. Being nudged to her hoofs, she gingerly got to a standing position, the other pouflon lending her a shoulder to lean on, despite her refusal. Though, with no sight or sound of the creature, the red-eyes pouf, or who caused the light, Dawn was eventually persuaded to leave the swamp with the stranger.
Disappointed in herself, she hung her head and limped alongside the other pouf, the pain seeming so very minor when compared to the shame she felt for failing so miserably.
