Spoiler Alert: This scene takes place in Chapter Fourteen of Cosmic Stars, the second installment of Legacy of the Veiled Stars .

"Months passed after the presumed death of the bravest soldier that Canidera has ever given birth to. Jun Fa the marten had barely learned how to deal with the death of his best friend; his brother, Yukiomaru Arekusanda the arctic fox. In what appeared to be a merciful twist of fate, the young Arctic Fox now opens his eyes once again to see the light of day... His radiant white fur shines as a symbol of hope between a world surrounded by death and suffering.."

Yukiomaru had been presumed dead, or infected by a terrible galactic parasite ever since he sacrificed everything to destroy a colossal botanical creature that had spear-headed the assault on Canidera, the home world of my characters. When the creature was burned to ashes, it was thought that the infection would slow there and they'd be able to repair the damages done to their world but a betrayer was among them. A reptilian refugee that Yukiomaru had harbored appeared to be the sole survivor of an attack on a Velmarian vessel, but in fact that reptilian turned out to be of a even greater threat than the colossal creature that Yukiomaru had just slain. That reptilian known as Kazamde captured Yukiomaru and was thought to had infected him or turn him into a greater monster.

For several months after that battle, the survivors of Canidera did what they could to defend their world against the spreading infection but it was considered a losing battle as they sacrificed everything to burn out the infection. When discovery of the infection overtaking the planet Velmaria, and using it as a staging planet to launch another assault on Canidera, the survivors committed a desperate act and assaulted the planet. The originally barren planet was now covered in lush green forests of the botanical parasite. When Kazamde appeared, it pushed the team on that planet to desperation and they moved toward the epicenter of a large storm and field of botanical pods. They were in the midst of a parasite-infected world, and a deadly storm, and a field of parasitic capsules that consumed their victims to only dump out the half-decomposed bodies. By chance or an unknown force, in the center of the flower tomb field and the raging storm, one of the capsules opens themselves. Yukiomaru Arekusanda, the arctic fox, is revealed and is unharmed.

Is he infected without showing signs like Kazamde or does this fox possess greater strength than what he seems?

This is one of the biggest moments in my continuing Sci-Fi story and I could not be happier to see it with my own eyes. Check out the original, or read the story for more details regarding this drawing.
