Salia rested one of her paws on the windowsill as she stared out the window. So many folk had gone to defend Deadman’s Cove, including a few kithood friends of hers, Rallen and Jeena. Sure, they might not have spent a lot of time together before said friends grew up, but each moment she did spend with them was precious. Besides, even if they weren’t living in the Den anymore, Salia would at least see them around the Grove occasionally. Now, she didn’t even have that. With a sigh, the orange furred kit began to absentmindedly pet her dottibop, Creeper, with her free hand. Honestly, she couldn’t wait to grow up. Sure, growing up came with its own set of challenges, but Salia was just so done with being a kit. But she still had to wait, and wait she would. At least she had her pet and her family to keep her company, as well as the memories of the time she spent with Rallen and Jeena when they were all kits.
-----------------------
“Check it out! I finally got them all to follow me single file!” Rallen said excitedly as he waved over his growing army of goobers. Sure, he only had like five now, but Salia doubted he would stop there. She sat next to Jeena and watched in amusement as Rallen paraded around his slimy pets. Each goober followed behind the other, forming squishy train, with their orange furred master proudly strutting about at the front. Salia glanced over at Jeena, the pink kit had her eye on the little goo balls and nodded in what seemed to be approval. Did she perhaps have a small hand in training them? Or was she just proud that her friend’s training paid off? Salia had to admit she felt proud of Rallen too, she herself had heard him grumbling about his pets getting too distracted during training sessions, so she knew how hard he must have been working with them. Finally, Rallen stopped and took a bow in front of them, only for the train of goobers to bump into his legs. “I…think we still need to work on hitting the breaks.” The orange kit flushed in embarrassment, only for a bright smile to overtake it when his friends clapped politely, even if they both were snickering ever so slightly.

------------------------
Salia lunged forward, toy shovel in hand, as she struck at Rallen. Meanwhile Rallen swiftly blocked with his wooden sword, a smirk crossing over his snout. Both quickly had to dodge out of the way, however, as Jeena sent two water balloons flying at him with her trusty slingshot. The pink folk’s gaze was focused on her friends down below, ready to keep them on their toes. Rallen instantly took an aggressive stance once the attack from above was over, “I could do this all day, Salia, can you?!” He challenged as he swung his sword down at Salia. Salia met his sword with her shovel, the two weapons clashing, “Of course I can, don’t underestimate me, Rallen!” Both kits began to shove their weapons against each other, hoping to force their opponent off balance. Suddenly, a splat of water made them both drop their weapons in shock. The two wet kits whipped around to the tree Jeena sat in. Jeena looked at them innocently, “You said you wanted me to keep you on your toes, right?” She said with a teasing edge to her voice. Rallen and Salia stared at her incredulously, until suddenly, Rallen burst out laughing. The situation was just to ridiculous for him to keep a straight face, and soon enough, his friends were laughing too.
----------------------------
A blanket fort was currently taking up half of Salia’s room, and the kit in question was curled up inside with her friends. Rallen was amusing himself with a comic book he’d brought, while Jeena was messing with a puzzle cube. It felt…peaceful. Salia was glad that she could just relax with her friends in silence. They didn’t need to speak, they just needed each other’s presence. Her ears twitched when the sound of soft footsteps approached, and the door creaked open. “Heya kittos! Just thought I’d leave these here for ya,” Salia recognized the newcomer as her Lune, “just bring the plate back when you’re done.” With that, her Lune set the plate on the floor, and closed the door behind her. Rallen’s head shot up, “Oh shit, are we getting food?!” Jeena quickly thwapped him with a pillow, “Language,” she teased as Salia peeked her head out of the fort. Oh! Her Lune left them a plate of cookies, nice! Salia quickly dragged the sweet treats back into the tent, and immediately had to defend them from Rallen. That kit really had no self-control at times, but it was pretty funny to watch him make a lunge for the plate.

--------------------------

Salia sighed again, then took Creeper into her hands. She missed her friends, she missed them so much. She was only about eight months behind them in terms of age, but she was still a kit while they were out slaying predators in a swamp. It wasn’t fair, it just wasn’t fair. The kit could only hope that her growth spurt would happen soon, and she could have adventures of her own…or at the very least, join her friends’.
