Description
Ah, at long last, I finished my entry (just on timeI chose to base my story on an idea pitched in 2002 for a movie called "The Fool's Errand", about "a court jester who goes on a mythical journey to return peace to his kingdom." I renamed my version to "Fooled" (like the new trend of "Tangled," "Brave," and "Frozen"), and although I initially thought about setting it in the more obvious period of Medieval England, I decided to relocate it to Renaissance Italy instead, because I thought that would be a lot of fun to design. I think the *Disney morals* of this story are "don't be fooled by appearances," and "never take your friends for granted."
I admit I went overboard in my picture...to be honest I sort of wanted to make this into a webcomic and then remembered I can't draw anything other than characters standing around, haha. But I do think I will draw them some more after this contest is over!
Anyway, everything you really need to know is actually in the picture (full-view so you can read it), and I hope you'll vote for me in the contest! (Or if you don't, at least vote for my sister ~Aidylvice 's awesome entry: [link] )
(P.S. Jangle should be in most of the scenes with Marco but...I'm still learning how to draw parrots. XD)

Did you mean I drew it hand drawn, or that the supposed "film" would be hand drawn?

Yes - I think that would be the best way to capture the kind of flat Carpaggio paintings I based the designs on.

It's to the right, under "more like this" - it says "Download Image." Here's the link to the hi-res one though: [link]
Funny, I'm working on this project right now.

Aw, thank you! I've been toying with the idea for NaNoWriMo but I really don't think I'll have the time. I've been doodling the characters some lately though so maybe I'll be able to post some more drawings.
Also, even though it is RARELY updated, I do have a Tumblr for this project if you want to follow it. :[link]

I am a serious Disney fan to a point where it runs in my blood! And I can tell you this: this would be a fantastic Disney movie! For one thing, it is not another princess movie and Disney always needs a chance to spread their wings away from Brother's Grimm tales. Do you know, by chance, if you would see this as a musical?

Wickfield In reply to Nachtsteampunk [2012-05-18 02:20:01 +0000 UTC]
Awesome, I'm glad you like it! It would be a way for Disney to add a new princess character without making it a princess movie.
And do you mean like a Broadway musical or a more classic Disney musical (like the Disney Renaissance films as compared to, say, The Emperor's New Groove)? TBH I don't imagine there being very many songs, at least not by the characters...maybe some in the background, the way Phil Collins did in Tarzan which was a good technique.
But then again, maybe Marco could have a bit of the minstrel in him and sing a few himself! He has to entertain himself and his friends on their journey...

Nachtsteampunk In reply to Wickfield [2012-05-18 07:16:22 +0000 UTC]
Yeah! Plus, by the looks of her, she would definitely have the new spunk that the new princesses are getting.
Classic Disney Musical. And that would be very interesting, but I don't think Phil Collins would be able to do the music for Fooled, his is more of a wilder music than what is needed for Renaissance Italy.
Hahaha! That would be great, even more so if he wasn't that great of a singer.

Haha, I didn't actually mean Phil Collins, but that style where one artist sang all the background songs. I don't know who *would* sing them though...

This is absolutely brilliant! It definitely deserved to win! I love the couple Izzy and Brutus Marco looks full of character, and Leo's expression in the picture with his sister is hilarious. Once again, excellent work. It's obvious lots of thought went into it.
Now I want this to be a movie....

Wickfield In reply to Starlace [2012-05-09 15:47:30 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I definitely think Brutus and Izzy are perfect for each other, even though Brutus keeps denying it - he gets to be the strong and manleh knight he imagines himself, and she gets to be the damsel she wants to be.
Also I'm glad to hear a compliment for Leo's expression in that pic...it was so difficult to have him look right! Originally he was supposed to look more bored but it kind of turned into an annoyed/nagged face in the end.

I would so see this if it was a real movie. :3
Btw, you didn't happen to base Brutus off of Dexter? They're very similar in personality and height imo.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Wickfield In reply to Laevateinn102 [2012-05-06 15:41:49 +0000 UTC]
Haha, no, but I can see the resemblance! Brutus was really just the stock "angry-short-man" character you see in a lot of cartoons, which Dexter is also. But Brutus was more inspired by the Disney characters like Yao and Phil.

Wow, this looks amazing, I love how much detail and thought you put into it. I also like the idea of the movie being set in Renaissance Italy, the paintings from that time really are beautiful. I actually really want to see this movie now

Wickfield In reply to WhiteEyedCat [2012-05-04 02:40:40 +0000 UTC]
Thank you! I'm surprised Disney hasn't used that period yet...I mean maybe a bit with Tangled but not directly in any of their movies. Which is odd, because there's so much material you can use to stylize the characters and backgrounds....
Anyway, thank you, I appreciate your comment!
