Description
Close the doorLet it seep in
That gas that keeps us holding hands
Like school children
Twirling in circles
Dizzy 'til we puke
Singing tunes we don’t know the meaning of
I draw a ring around the rose
Tattooed on your side
With my finger
Then my tongue
And you scream with elation
Like it was your first time
Holding hands in a park
With the boy you had a crush on in middle school
The class clown
The court jester to your majesty
Making jokes about how we’d be together
Lying through my teeth
As I lay me down to sleep
Sleep is a luxury these days
When thoughts of you run through my head
Dizzy 'til I puke
Dry heaving, now
And the words still won’t come out
Only a gaseous sigh
Huffs
Puffs
You blew my house down, Little Bo Peep
Can’t chase you now
You found one of those piggies and got hitched
So the wolf is all alone
The big bad wolf
The same wolf that tyrannized you
Ate your grandma
Stole your basket
Disguised as little Red Riding Hood
Just to make it pass security without detection
Took a while to realize a boy doesn’t wear a mustache
Albeit slight
But just when you’re not expecting it
I’ll be back
And draw a circle around the rose you wear in your hair these days
A pocket full of posies for the next one
Ashes for the last
And you’ll brush me off like I did before
Ironic, eh?
How clocks turn but things stay the same
Roles change
Not the players
Stories recycled
Just different characters

Great work. Love the use of different stories, nursery rhymes and poetry. Very original and beautifully written. Love the message, great word choice.
In one word, splendid..
