Artaith Rhydian had always run the path of the straight and narrow at an almost blinding pace, never looking right nor left at any sort of beautiful distraction. A Jedi, like her father before her, her purpose was tied to her people...to the Order...and to the Code they were supposed to live and breathe.

But her father was a wolf...a creature that longed to form the attachments a Jedi could not have. He had chosen one nature he personified over the other. He'd chosen to be a wolf and a man rather than a Jedi and a servant...

...though her father had left in honor, she felt as though she had to make up for a career in the Order cut short by what some would define as selfishness. As she did in everything in her life, she sought to perfect something she believed she could control, and so she walked the Jedi path obediently, a shining star in the Order. Something Master Rhydian surely would have been proud of in any Jedi, especially his daughter.

When the gray eyes of Qui-Gon Jinn first began to hold her attention for more than a mere flash of a second or two, her paws began to pivot towards the unknown brush on the sides of her well-cut path...a path trodden by so many other successful Jedi. Artaith tried to ignore him...to ignore how her breath came in stuttering gasps when he'd say something clever, charming, and offsetting at the same time...she tried to ignore desperately how her heart stupidly refused to keep in even rhythm when she'd encounter Jinn and Obi-Wan in the halls. And she tried even harder to ignore Obi-Wan's quizzical and concerned looks of confusion at her school girlish behavior.

At first, she didn't know the cause. It made no sense for one so driven by duty and purpose to give into such a silly folly as love.

However, months since she took a tentative first step off of her well-laid path, she found comfort in his hand on top of hers, one of his broad shoulders rubbing against the fabric of her robes, and the warmth his eyes gazing upon her kindly always brought to her face.

As they would wile away secret hours on the bench her father used to call his own in the Room of A Thousand Fountains, she began to think less of whether or not her father, whose name was still spoken in tones of praise in the Order, was proud of her as a Jedi and more as to whether or not he was proud of her for simply being her in following the path to her own heart.

Finished piece for Artaith of her fursona with her Stuhr Durrr Murrr Purrr Warz boifran, QuiGonz. They are cute. Love them.

Anywho, this is huge. Done on 14" x 17" bristol with india ink, brush pen, copic markers, colored pencils, micron inks, and white gel pen. Took forever because it is huge, detailed, tried some new shading and lighting stuff (was scared to death to do it), aaaaaaand my family life has been a bit odd lately. Gawd.

There will be a sister piece of this with Obi-Wan and Wielder in the future. Wielder and Artaith and their relationships with their boys kind of form two sides to the same coin, so I figure it'll be nifty to do that. Must get more commissions done before attempting to do said sister piece though.
