This is my first Blender Render, which kind of marks a turning point for me. I've been working in DAZ Studio since 2005 and I've really enjoyed a lot of my work there, learning the ins and outs of 3D. But I just got to a point where I was spending more and more of my time trying to find workarounds to it's limitations rather than working with my artwork. In this image I used the Diffeomorphic plugin rather than the DAZ to Blender plugin. I wanted to see what kind of output I could get without doing much to get it. what you see here is the default import of materials from DAZ studio. This is the Girl 8 with Linday's Dforce long hair --the only thing I did was pose a little bit so I could see the materials of the face and hand in the same frame. I'm far from a Blender expert --right now I'm learning lighting and materials for it, rather than trying to model and sculpt just yet. There is nothing other than two point lights --default settings and there's no other setup involved.I'm going to kind of use this as a benchmark from my starting point with Blender. I'm not totally pleased with the materials but I suspect that I've got some work to do in order understand how best to set things up.
If you want to know the chief reason I decided to stop working with DAZ? Well... everything but Iray. I actually like the Iray render engine, and I might try Pro-render in the future but I really want to do more dynamic scenes and having to go out of DAZ to create a morph to hide pokethrough or correct this or that just got to be too tedious. Posing packs leave a bad taste in my mouth and the prospect of rendering the abysmal fire options you have in DAZ just made it so that it was time to move to something more robust. I like the Maya Plugins, but I want to work with something where I don't have to worry about licensing every time I re-install or upgrade my machine. Hitting the render button for the first time in Blender means the start of a new adventure and I'm excited to see how far it can take me.
