Description
This cave in Morocco is part of the largest cave network in North Africa. I got my girlfriend and the guide to stand in the beam of light to add a sense of scale. I took an HDR sequence to get a bit more detail in the shadows and the beam.Copyright © Burrard-Lucas Photography , All Rights Reserved

This is such a beautiful and breath taking shot. The sun is places so perfectly for this effect as well, and I feel it makes a lot of difference having the two people standing in the shaft of light as well. The Light looks such a curious colour with the dust in it- like it is the light of God or something.
The rest of the image is in some great detail too- the plants and vegetation on the walls of the hole as well as the detail in the rock formation and layering.
I feel this is a fantastic shot that has the best of both worlds in the way of normal lighting and contrast to the cave walls, and the bright and somewhat magical light from the outside world.

Wow, Beautifully executed
The inclusion of your girlfriend and tour-guide really adds to the impact!
the beam of light seems to be well defined as it contrasts in tone with the cave's light.
Well done on the HDR efforts! looks completely natural to me!
I really dislike HDR when the strength has been turned down to lowest.
The rocks on the ground looks like grains of sand! the people look a bit photoshopped to!
but this isn't a bad thing as the WOW factor of this image just makes it so spectacular.
I love the utilization of the 'rule of thirds'
The hole almost looks like an eye!
Not much can be said about technique or originality!
I simply love this!
Regards,
A.

It's hard to find much to fault in this shot.
The light beam idea is far from original - but in situations such as these, it's the obvious and probably most aesthetically pleasing option... and when the results are so spectacular, who cares about originality?
The two things I'd like to point out here that really make this a top shelf photo are the sense of scale and the incredible detail.
The inclusion of the two figures in the light beam suddenly reveals that this is no ordinary cave, but instead a monstrous cavern of amazing size. It's often difficult to capture a sense of grandeur through photography, but in this case the grand scale is revealed in all of its enormity.
Better even than the sense of scale, though, is the fact that almost no detail has been lost, despite the impossibly difficult range of light across this photo. HDR has been used to perfection. All too often, photographers have the urge to push HDR out to bizarre extremes, and the results are obvious and unappealing. Not so, here. Subtlety is the keyword, and the HDR has been employed masterfully to reveal detail in the shadow while maintaining the marvelous sense of light and wonder.
This is truly an amazing shot which you should be very proud of.

Great choice on going with the HDR. I do believe that it wouldn't be quite the same if you had not have done so. The details you've managed to bring out in the cave walls is amazing. It makes for an interesting piece, especially with the shadow and light play. There is a lot of detail to be admired, especially within the ridges where the shadows are, and up next to the centre of the photo where a good portion of green can be seen.
Having your girlfriend and guide standing in the beam was an excellent idea too. While at times it's nice to not have that human touch in something, it's nice to have the sense of scale you've been able to provide here.
I feel you've got a great photo here and the composition works well. The lighting is lovely - there isn't really anything throwing off the balance of the photo. The only part that bothers me slightly, and distracts my attention from the rest of the image, is where the light is hitting the rock above your girlfriend and guide. It's quite harsh in comparison to the rest of the photo, so my eyes are drawn there, which is a shame considering the rest of the photo is really quite beautiful!
Wonderful job on this photo though, and once again, great choice on the HDR - it's nice that it's still very natural looking. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Wow, amazing work!
The people seem so small comparing them to this amazing nature. Well done!
