Been reading The Crusades by Thomas Asbridge. I think modern society has a way of blending together a tumultous horrible historical event with the simplicity of sword and sorcery tales. If you look it in a way and see two groups of religious armies annihilating each other it paints a different picture. Its a horrible era I think but fascinating how a majority of participants threw themselves at each other for promise of forgiveness and a place in paradise.
