Description
A feather painting of a mantling red-tailed hawk I did for the NAFA 2017 Field Meet raffle. I'm not a falconer yet but that will likely change next year!Β I've never felt so content and at peace as when I'm out in the field with the birds. Seeing them fly in such beautiful surroundings, the excitement of watching them hunt, it makes me feel a joy I can't find elsewhere.Acrylics on four turkey tail feathers.

Red Tails have been my favorite hawk since I was a kid. No idea why. Just has and is.
And painting on feathers is awesome. Didn't actually notice at first.

I like the fact, that you glued many feathers together, that's pretty unique
I wish you good luck on becoming a falconer, I get that it's your most desired wish right now!Β Β

My uncle was a falconer and raised a redtail.Β To be exact his job entailed rehabilitating birds found injured or abandoned ect and if they were capable of being returned to the wild he would help facilitate that if not he trained them for teaching purposes.Β Well, about seven years ago he was so proud to tell me he was able to release the redtail I had grown up having known into the wild. Three years ago he took his sons and wife out into the area they released her into and FOUND HER!Β She sat perched and did several of theirΒ communication whistles with him but to his relief and pride she would not come any closer.Β I know very well how happy it made him know she is alive and healthy and enjoying her wildlife so much she has no desire to return to where she was.Β I truly hope you can have similar experiences as a falconer.Β This is gorgeous art, by the way, a wonderful depicture of these beautiful birds.Β Bravo and goodluck!

I love red-tailed hawks; partially because they're one of two large birds I can identify on sight around here

That is absolutely gorgeous. The form of the wings and tails created by your shading and draftsmanship have me in awe. Great work!
