Description

Testing out Liches for the 'Lich's Crypt' (Maximum sized Baldur's Gate outside area for a 'piece by piece' expansion called 'Legacy of the Undead') that descends down into a (hopefully) massive multi level dungeon that is host to encounters at an extremely difficult if not nearly impossible difficulty for 750,000 experience cap; if only I could get the scripts to run properly XD. The Black Lich (top portrait below Veldryn and rightmost in the line of Liches) is Lich Lord Kel'Zan and is a Level 31 Demilich. I hope to have more extremely power undead in the lower reaches of the Lich's Crypt. Deep in the Undead Bowels of the accursed vile place crawling with undeath and danger behind every twist and turn.

"I want the Lich's Crypt to be almost impossible like it should not even be in the same ball park as the first Baldur's Gate. I hope to have an experience cap of 750,000 for the expansion (wizards have access to 6th level spells) to make it extremely hard to properly compete against even a single near godlike opponent. As in I do not expect the 'average player' to even win; keenly focused to provide a place and experience of hell that is only meant to kill every party that enters. This can act as challenge to come back to when the party keeps dying and would force the party to comb the lands for power and skill to face the challenges that await. One could even say an endeavour of a dungeon designed for the express purpose to be by its very nature; diabolical.

We have these hardcore players yet there are no really insane encounters in the game that give a sense of fair impossibility where there is a still a chance to win but chances are you will just die anyway. I was thinking of spamming in an insane amount of crazy hard enemies although I figure to use some insanely over tuned encounters as bosses and try to force the player to focus and cut away all the fat and really give a reason to get powerful. Not to just get more 'powerful' to crush weak enemies harder but to act instead as a needed key to overcome a nearly impossible challenge. Perhaps even have Drizzt like enemies as trash and just ToB level encounters as bosses with an insane boss at the end but in BG1 to make a truly dangerous place that is optional but has all the best loot; if you are worthy of possessing the skill demanded to earn victory. I want the nearly impossible dungeon to be 'fair' and have a chance to beat it but it should feel like hell every step of the way. This content is not meant to be given to the player but earned. A place to burn away the weak and forge the strong; just like raiding Naxxramas XD. Then again the community could really go to town on giving feedback to help with creating insane encounters with the likes of Sword Coast Stratagems. Where do you go when you get all the best loot from around the map? Charging straight into super hell to kill super bosses!

Easier stuff should also be made but to hell with hand holding we need a nearly impossible dungeon to face XD. All the treasure in Baldur's Gate just makes the game easier and in many cases all the 'tough' problems can be solo'd by a level 1 (with the right set up). I was thinking of having the encounter be ridiculous in difficulty and it just spams death and problems with forced spells, using 9th level and better spells on demand to just crush a ~12th level party over and over again. Really get the reloads happening and give a legitimate reason to drink potions and throw everything at it and the kitchen sink and still lose again and again and again until maybe just finally after battling hard for 4-5 hours a well earned triumph. The loot reward should reflect this challenge as well for all that mainly awaits after in terms of challenge is hopefully found in SoD and BG II. The whole idea of the 'piece by piece' expansion is to unlock the 'Goldilocks zone' found in early - middle BG II but with the setting and theme of the first Baldur's Gate. This 'nearly impossible dungeon' is a place to offer the highest degree of challenge in hopes to offer content for all players skillful and not. It is with this near impossible challenge to punish the careless and hopefully provide that needed push for an average aspiring player to become stronger not just as with their fantastical avatar but also as person. Adversity is the only thing that truly earns character."
