I am human. I know breath;
I breathe to live. I live to breathe.
Every rush of air that comes in
Must inevitably come out.
It fills my lungs in a gasp;
Shock and awe,
Horrified.
Through my veins,
Through my heart.
I feel the air feed my blood;
I feel it beat, I feel it fail.
I feel it breaking, my heart,
Because I am human.
I am human. I know fear;
Uncertainty inhaled as I fall;
I fall deeper and deeper;
I fall in love;
I fall to the abyss.
Where I expect endlessness,
Expect to be swept,
To be carried to heaven,
I only hit rock.
And there I am, scared,
Because I am human.
I am human. I know sorrow;
I could cry no ocean,
No sea large enough,
To lift me back to the top;
No waters calm enough
For a ship to carry me to safety.
But I can stand,
Because I am human.
