Description I resist no more, surrendering to my wanderlust.
Can't you tell I've abandoned you
to your own devices,
and have established my own bearing?

Wander down the old crossroads; find for yourself
that vacuum I always tried ignoring.
The tracks all look the same —
river-bottoms and forest runs,
footpaths made by deer, or by other
passions in motion, forever exploring.

Now I'm off questing myself.

So, please, resist the compulsion
to think of me in past tense.
It's not as though everything
I'll do has been done.
Wandering is forever.

Know that I don't really desire
anything but the stillness of the road.

Cain's my man, the first one to roam.
He set out. What reason's there to stop?

Still, for honesty's sake you must know
I've sometimes stopped,
I could rarely go as far as I've dreamed.

And if you follow me in my travels,
assume all you'll find are weird shadows
and zephyrs on the trail.
Mind yourself friend, and remember,
that nothing is just
what we can plead for from life.

Forget about second chances.
There are none.
We alight upon our path
never again to find the hearth.

I'd rather you didn't recall me.
If you must, say I was a story
to learn from, as once I had to learn
from tales of those gone before me.

Forget I stayed.
