Description Writer's block is horrible,
a wicked, little beast.
It roots itself up in the mind
and then begins to feast.
         This tapeworm of the brain
         feeds on enlightened things
         those ideas worth remembering
         those phrases with the rings.
It sucks and bloats and grows and grows
                   unabated in its thirst.
It consumes the thoughts of its host
'til it should be fit to burst.
It stretches out as it grows
         and wraps around the brain
so any thought worth its salt
         is siphoned down the drain.
And it grows fat with vicious glee,
grows long with plot and scheme
as sheets of paper flop into bins
dead oeuvre ream by ream.

The mind on us plays vicious tricks
         when wishing to lay still
but worry more for the poor mind
         that's held against its will.
And this cruel wyrm that feeds upon
                   its every wandering thought--
that bites and burns and mutilates
                   without missing a spot--
this wyrm, this fiend, this demon-spawn,
         this unrelenting cur,
this plague of a broken mind
that the mind does itself conjure,
this monster of a chilled mind
is there, even now
daring all to vanquish it,
but they know not how.
