I think a better dialogue would be saying "You still really are defensive as always." instead of "You're still so guarded."

"You are still so guarded." This is just my opinion on it but.... To me it fit's better as it is. It suits the story and the character. And it means the same thing anyways. Back in times of hand to hand combat and sword duels The English language was spoken much differently and I think if this was said in a more modern way then that would take away the charm of the era and story that's being set up here. Writers and artists do things a certain way to assist in the telling of their story.
