Description
March 23, 2024I grew up with Super Robos in my life.
In the USA, super heroes from Marvel and DC were always well known and popular but in Japan it was the Super Robos that dominated.
Everywhere I looked in Japan, there were some kind of Super Robo saving the day whether it was Danguard Ace (one of my faves), Gundam, Macross, Dynaman, Juspion, Jiraiya, Machine Robo, Dougram, Dancouga, Ninja Senshi Tobikage (one of my faves) or even Mashin Hero Wataru.
So it's no surprise that I designed some of my own.
This is The Wmpyr Robo.
It comes from a previous design but I finally got most of it right!
It's Lego mini-figure compatible, and ideally sold as a capsule toy.
As a kid in Japan straight from Texas I freaking loved running around Tokyo playing these capsule machines trying to score some really cool SD Gundam figures.
The top hole is for a laser pistol during bat mode.
One of the Lego Star Wars Storm Trooper blasters would work perfect.
So compared to Transformers this basically has the most rudimentary of transformations.
All you do is flip the head around and take it off the body and Voila it's a bat!
I like the simplicity of that, and as a kid I would have been able to appreciate that, it would have gotten hours and hours of play time from me!
To this day this is the kind of collectible toy I would want, as a kid or adult.
This head would be available in many colors, the chase of course would be in glow-in-the-dark, metallic and metallic marbleized colors, and also translucent glitter (glitter done right is glitter embedded in the plastic not poured on where it rubs off, I freaking hate that).
This toy would be great because it would Lego mini-figure compatible but also compatible to a 3 3/4" figure like the original vintage Kenner Star Wars sized figures.
I know Wmpyr Robo looks like a bad guy, but let's just say he was evil turned good.
Next I got to work on his nemesis.
That one is going through a major design change, much bigger than this one went through.
