LOL! After making a rough model of Amy’s Kitchen, I figured to make it work better as a reference, I’d need some surrounding areas as well and then ended up making a rater rough paper model of part of the house! So fun! Also a very handy reference as it works well for that purpose!*Update: I redid this in what I think is a better version to actually work better as a reference here
Anyway, plug for using models for drawing below...
Using models for drawing is something really useful for doing difficult shots or locations returned to a lot, and two artists come to mind to me to have mentioned using models to help with drawing either several buildings or interiors using both models made traditionally in real life or digitally with Blender.
Yoshida Seiji in his book Houses with a Story: A Dragon’s Den, a Ghostly Mansion, a Library of Lost Books, and 30 More Amazing Places to Explore has all these whimsical buildings where he has an exterior view, interior cut-away shot and floor plan, and he mentions making a model with styrene over the floor plans!www.amazon.com/Houses-Story-Dr…
On the digital side, the artist Peter Wartman for the Avatar:The Last Airbender comic “Imbalance” mentions using Blender, or in his words “ I created simple 3D models in a program called Blender for the backgrounds in Imbalance, which I used as a base to draw over.” (You can see a city aerial down shot above this quote)
(He also had another quote Below an Asian house with a slight what seems to me a three point perspective down shot, with the top horizon line a bit above the house. The horizon line and eyeline or line of sight aren’t the same in three point since you’re no longer looking parallel to the ground.)
Also “Design for Liling’s House. You can see more clearly the 3D models I used in the background here. These models were especially handy for scenes we returned to several times (like Liling’s house)as it ensured that buildings were placed consistently.”
So models are nice! I’ll have to learn Blender eventually I think or it would be nice like-wise for city stuff but my plate feels full for now with what I’m learning!
