Welcome back to another Villains Week here at Vector Vengers! You know what really sells an evil guy look? A goatee.
Luchino Nefaria. With a name like that you're either going to become a super villian or a mobster. This dude decided "why not both?" And you add the fact that he's a count? Man, that is prime evil guy stuff. Give that man a cape and a goatee.
Count Nefaria, wanting to increase his wealth through evil means, joined the ranks of the comic book Maffia stand-in, the Maggia. He then began a series of ill thought schemes and ran afoul of the Avengers and X-Men quite a few times (even causing the death of newly minted X-Man Thunderbird on his 2nd mission with the team).
Instead of making more money, he humiliated himself in the eyes of the Maggia, the Aristocrats he formerly hung out with, and squandered his wealth (super villiany has a steep overhead).
In an attempt to recreate himself he forms a new Lethal Legion with professional bad guys losers the Living Laser, Whirlwind, and Powerman (at least two of these dudes stalked The Wasp, so...gross). He upgrades all their powers which actually made them all dangerous for once, but then inexplicably steals all their powers (the double cross....classic bad guy move) and becomes the most powerful Italian guy since Mario.
He still gets his ass beat by the Avengers. Much later he dies when a moon lander falls on his hospital bed.
Yikes. Comics are bonkers.
That goatee, tho.....classic bad guy.
