A curse and responsibility passed down through the ages, every generation has a Ghost Rider, the Spirit of Vengeance. Sort of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer but if her head were on fire and she rode a motorcycle and were usually a dude. So I guess very different, actually now that I think of it. Ignore the Buffy thing.⁣⁣

Anyway, the origins are crazy complex, but simply put: someone gets the curse and they turn into Ghost Rider, a fiery-skulled demonic entity who counterintuitively is compelled to seek justice for those killed or harmed by evil doing, and usually does so clad in leather and riding something badass like a motorcycle, which is also on fire. ⁣⁣

In the 90s, the one with the curse was young Danny Ketch, who stumbled upon a cursed motorcycle in a junkyard while in danger from a villain named Deathwatch (90s comics characters all had "death" or "blood" in their name because the 90s were very 90s) and was transformed into Ghost Rider after his sister was mortally wounded. Man, too bad that didn't happen a few minutes earlier, I guess, huh?⁣⁣

That problematic trope aside, Danny became the Spirit of Vengeance and was, like, super popular for awhile with a ton of spin off comics. Later it turned out the last Ghost Rider, Johnny Blaze, was actually his long lost brother. Neither brother was ever an Avenger (although Johnny was in a short lived Avengers-esque team called The Champions), but they both ran across members of the Avengers often over the years, and a later Ghost Rider in modern day actually does join the team. So eventually one got it right.⁣⁣
