Greetings, comrades. While we are having a short time machine "lay over" in the Soviet Era USSR, we thought we'd kill time by featuring some Soviet and Russian Marvel super characters. We promise we aren't just Stalin for time. [[[obligatory rimshot]]]
Most of these characters were members of the various versions of a team of Russian superhero/villains (depending on the story). Originally they were called the Soviet Super Soldiers, and later The Supreme Soviets, The Protectorate, and arguably most memorably as The Winter Guard. Hard to stick to a name when the Soviet Union collapses, I guess.
Originally, The Soviet Union euthanized any mutants they discovered. But that genocide stopped when Professor Phobos discovered young mutant Mikhail Ursus living among animals in the woods. Photos was able to convince his masters of the tactical value of using mutants by showing them Mikhail's unique abilities. Which are that HE CAN TRANSFORM INTO A FREAKIN' BEAR!!!
Under the name Ursa Major, Mikail became a Soviet Super Soldier. Because he can TRANSFORM INTO A FREAKIN' BEAR!!!
Yeah, maybe you're all like "Black Widow or Colossus are the best Russian superheroes" but OMG SHUT YOUR FACE URSA MAJOR CAN TRANSFORM INTO A FREAKIN' BEAR, DAMMIT!!!
Also he's usually drunk. HE'S DRUNK AND CAN TRANSFORM INTO A FREAKIN' BEAR! DRUNK MUTANT BEAR!!!
All other mutants are instantly not as interesting as Ursa Major. Because DRUNK BEAR!!!
