((CW: This piece features an "off screen" pokemon death ))

Tori couldn’t take her eyes off the mutilated pokemon corpses down below. It was as if she was frozen, completely mesmerized by the horror.

“Tori! Can we leave now!?” Tyler shook her shoulder, his voice on the verge of panic. It was enough to snap her back to her senses.

“Y-Yeah. Let’s get outta ‘ere.” Sorry Glitch, but she didn’t want to stick around long enough to find out what had turned this cave into it’s personal murder den.

The siblings were about to turn tail and head back the way they came, when a horrible shrieking sound stopped them in their tracks. It was as if two pieces of metal were being scraped together, punctuated by breaking glass. All they could do was cover their ears and wince, even Chomper dropped to the ground as he attempted to paw at his head with his stubby legs.

When the sound stopped, Tori frantically looked around to try and identify the source but it wasn’t until some small rocks fell from the ceiling that she thought to look up.

    She almost wished she hadn’t.

A large creature came crawling down from the shadows just above the chamber entrance like some kind of spider demon. The over-sized claws on its front legs left deep gouges in the rocks as it descended, while several dark vines sprawled out from it’s root-like hind legs, anchoring it to the wall. The pokemon stopped as it reached the tunnel and snarled at the trespassers, revealing jagged yellow teeth and a long skinny tongue that wriggled like a worm.

“Wh-what kind of pokemon is that!?” Tyler gulped.

“I...ain’t sure.” Tori whispered, fighting to keep her voice steady. “But...it kinda reminds me of Wraith.”

Like Wraith, the strange creature didn’t seem to be one full pokemon but rather multiple pieces stitched together. It lacked a helmet, however, instead having a visor-like device covering part of its face and wrapping around the back of its head, while two glowing circular sections continuously turned on either side. Regardless of what exactly it was, Tori could tell from its purplish-black coloration and multiple glowing crimson eyes that it was infected with the shadow virus, most likely even corrupted.

    This was bad.

A cascade of snapping sounds echoed throughout the cave as the pokemon tore itself from the vines and leapt down in front of them, blocking their exit. Both she and her brother instinctively backed away, but were stopped only after a couple feet by the edge of the cliff.

    This was really bad.

Chomper charged forward, snapping his jaws in his best attempt at a threat display. Tyler scrambled to scoop up the inexperienced trapinch and held him close to his chest.

“Can’t you do something?” He begged his sister, not taking his eyes off the dangerous pokemon.

“Like what!? I don’t ‘ave any of my battla’s wit me!” Tyler had made a big deal about how the Test of Courage was how most kids in Barcroft got their first pokemon, so she couldn’t use any of hers. She had left most of her pokemon behind so he couldn’t accuse her of cheating. All of her remaining pokemon were either young or not capable of battling.

“RETURN TO SOURCE. RETURN TO SOURCE” A digital voice interrupted the standoff. Glitch came flying in through one of the holes in the ceiling, his body spasming even more than usual as he approached the creature.

The mysterious pokemon narrowed its multiple eyes at the porygon. With terrifyingly fast reflexes it smacked him out of the air, sparks flying as it slowly began to crush him beneath its claws.

“ERROR! ERROR!” The way the manufactured pokemon’s voice broke made it obvious that he was in pain.

“Defective creature…” came a hollow and raspy voice, as if the speaker was being suffocated. “Failure to track the obsolete experiment is warrant for termination.”

The metal plates welded onto Glitch’s body began to crack. The porygon’s cries were unintelligible at this point.

“GET OFFA ‘IM!” Tori screamed at his attacker. She took a step forward, hoping the pokemon would buy into the bluff that its ability to speak hadn’t frightened her.

The corrupt silvally turned its attention toward her. “Witnesses are not permitted, all collateral must be terminated.”

Without breaking eye contact, the silvally picked up Glitch and flung him into a nearby wall. Glitch twitched a couple times before the red glow of his eyes faded away.

The silvally began to approach the two trainers, spittal flying out of its mouth as it snarled. Tori shoved Tyler behind her as she reached for her switchblade. Her fingers had barely brushed against the hilt when Wraith came charging out from the tunnel.

Before anyone could react, the Null pounced on the silvally, raking their claws down its back.

As the silvally bucked and screamed, Tori grabbed Tyler’s hand as they ran to the other side of the cave. She took the opportunity to recall the unconscious Glitch into his pokeball and Tyler recalled Chomper as well.

A loud crash brought their attention back to the fight, as the silvally had managed to buck Wraith off. The silvally circled around them, hissing.

“Experiment BK_Beta 6-6 has been determined defective and obsolete. Termination is immenent.”

Wraith picked themselves up from the ground, this time their movements were smooth and deliberate. They firmly planted themselves in between the siblings and the silvally. Even with the mask muffling their growls, they were still loud enough to be intimidating.

Both pokemon charged at each other, colliding in the middle. They bit and clawed indiscriminately, aiming for the others head and throat. They would disengage briefly, only to re-engage seconds later. This wasn’t a typical pokemon battle with some form of rhyme or reason, this was two creatures fighting to the death.

All Tori and Tyler could do was watch helplessly. The tunnel was their only escape route, yet they couldn’t reach it without crossing the battle ground. And both pokemon were moving too quickly for them to risk getting caught in the crossfire.

Lightning crackled from the silvally's gaping maw as it charged in with a thunder fang, but Wraith lowered their head at the last second to meet it with an iron head, knocking the silvally down. For a moment, it appeared as if Wraith would have the victory as the Null pounced, ready to end it all with a well placed crush claw. But the silvally twisted around at the last second to shot them with a powerful blast of shadow energy. The breath of ruin held enough force to send Wraith flying back into a wall, colliding head first into the rocks.

Their control mask immediately shattered on impact, releasing a shock wave that knocked everyone in the room to the ground.

Tori struggled to her knees, wincing as she ran a hand over her scraped up cheek. A cloud of dust fell on her suddenly, as a chorus of loud cracks rang out above her. She looked up to see several large rocks falling directly above her.

“Look out!” Tyler screamed as he grabbed her arm, yanking her away just in time to prevent her from getting crushed.

Using her brother as support, Tori scrambled to her feet. She still clung to him as she stared wide eyed at the pile of rocks resting just inches away from them.

“I think I know why they closed this cave now.” Tyler commented dryly.

“We need to go.” Tori agreed. All around them the ceiling creaked and groaned as dust and pebbles rained down, loosened from the blast.

The two started to run for the exit when the corrupt silvally charged in front of them, cutting them off.

    “Termination is inevitable.” It hissed.

It began to stalk towards them, paying no mind to the falling debris, until what could only be described as a banshee’s wail stopped it in its tracks.

“Get away from them!” Multiple voices spoke in unison.

All three turned to see a newly evolved Wraith. Without their mask, their face appeared to be that of a marowak. They had a similar visor-like device covering their muzzle, with the same glowing pistons that creaked and whirled as if they hadn’t moved in several years. The color of their body had become more saturated and a strange mane made of energy flowed from the back of their head. Though the most striking change was their eyes, where they had once been dull and glazed over, now shone with a burning fire.

“We will not let you hurt them!” Wraith snarled as they approached the silvally.

The silvally glanced between the three of them. For a moment it almost appeared panicked. Then it curled back its lips in what could only be described as a malicious smile. The circular pistons began to glow a bright red as they spun faster and faster.

    “Self-destruct protocol activated.”

    “WHAT!?” Both teens shrieked.

Wraith charged forward and tackled the silvally. Though the silvally struggled to free itself, Wraith lunged and bit into their neck, pinning them down.

As the two chimeras thrashed around; for a brief moment Wraith made eye contact with Tori. She could almost swear she saw their eyes change color as a distinctly female voice yelled at them to run.

“C’mon!” Tori grabbed Tyler’s arm as they sprinted into the tunnel. They bashed up against the walls and rocks as they blindly ran through the twisted corridors. They didn’t know how long they had and didn’t dare to slow down. They shoved their way around a corner and could literally see the light at the end. They were so close, just a few more feet, when the loudest explosion either of them had ever heard shook the entire tunnel.

They both went tumbling to the ground as they were engulfed in the roar of the collapsing cave.

Part 2! I honestly feel like this is the weakest part. I'm not very good at action scenes. Plus I didn't really get to proof-read this section as much as the others, but it's 2 AM and I just want it done xD;

TL;DR: Turns out there was a corrupt silvally hanging out in that cave. And it looks like it was using Glitch as a homing beacon to find Wraith. Wraith and the silvally battle it out and Wraith's control mask gets broken in the process. Rather than risk Wraith over powering it and escaping, the corrupt Silvally decides to Self Destruct, taking everyone down with it. Wraith sacrifices themselves so Tori and Tyler can escape the initial blast, but the explosion triggers a cave-in.

~Levels~
Amulet coin is active

Word Count: 1648
Art:  Wraith is level 100. They would've gained 2 levels (+1 partial &shading, +1 simple bg) but they officially die at the end of the story. So I'm not entirely sure how this works
Literature: Glitch gains 11 levels (+8 1600 words, +3 NPC/no pokemon)
