When a writer puts his soul and passion into his work.
It will go unnoticed, often because of its length.
It is a rather sad fact, but a truth nonetheless.
For the simple emotions conveyed in just a few words,
Often hold more sway with those who are emotionally swayed.
There is no depth of the heart, nor a single thought spared.
For the effort placed into a piece that forgoes the winning edge,
For a hint of true meaning.
You will not read this piece and I will not expect you to.
It will not be popular or famous, nor will it see the light of day.
For length is the bane of true poetry,
And that is why so many of my kin have already left.
Thank you however, for reading this;
For you at least took the time to see what I would consider 'truth'.
It is bitter indeed and intensely sad,
But for the you that respects this, I am eternally glad.

I understand this feeling @_@ I write essay of replies to most things anyway, though. I was never good at summarizing things, never could quite grasp the context of it x:
I find that normally, the things that are long, are generally worth reading though.

emotionally swayed is a reference to the genre of poetry that garners the highest view count on DA (mostly because almost everything poetic is emotional in some way x'D)

I relate so much. I write fan fiction on another website and barely anyone reads it, or at least not to entirety, because of its length. I find it pretty unfair considering lengthy writing is my a-game. :/ 100% true.

I actually agree with you in the fact that a lot of people will not read this because of its length or how many words their attention span is short and do not wish to take the time to read something if its more than a few words a long. Personally I will read something no matter how long it is because if it pulls me in is so good I will read till the end and I will start reading something to the end an then i will reflect on what I have read an try to figure out what I thought depends on my mood I think. Anyway I like what you wrote and I think that people need to take more time to read each others work and appreciate it more but then that's just what I think however I do think being famous ins't necessary the way to go because a message can get across without that if enough people read anyway maybe not thousands or anything like that but even a small amount can come across all the same. Β

It is not important, to be famous or known. In fact, fame can kill the message you carry
I personaly would prefer to be an anonymous writter whom anonymous quotes would be remembered by the multitude of human beings... than being a famous poet who would prostitute his art.

But yet- it doesn't really matter if the masses read it, does it? What would they do with it? Would they know what to do with it?
Popularity, attention, and readers are harder to come by these days than it used to be- Β I seem to notice that myself. But the people that end up liking our works, act friendly, and stick around tend to be the most important, Β more important than the views, favorites, or comments. Because they can give real feedback- and sometimes make us feel like we're doing something right.
And yeah... it's an unfortunate norm indeed that people tend to not read things because of the 'length'.

In fact it's actually a bit of a cripple for me sometimes. I read on FanFiction a lot and most of the time you can tell the quality of a story by it's length in word count. This has led me to not read shorter stories at times. Though this is not without reason as I've read the shorter stories and it's usually done without a lot of effort or dedication so it's not very good. But there are a couple gems that I've found among the shorter stories, normally just one shots though.
