Why do some people seem intent on sucking the excitement, laughter, or the fun out of something harmless?

For example, a few were being buzzkillers by criticizing the teaser trailer of the Artemis Fowl movie. IT'S THE FIRST TRAILER, for god's sake. Can we save the criticism until we see the whole movie first? Stop ruining the excitement for the rest of us. (I've waited 15 YEARS for that movie, d'arvit, and nobody is gonna ruin it for me! )

Another one, more recently: A friend shared a fun/humorous video of a police department doing a lipsync/dance-battle challenge...and somebody decided to post a criticizing comment about cops in general (again...This wasn't the first time I've seen the same person leave a disparaging comment on something police-related).

My ex was the same way too, just in general, whenever I attempted to make small-talk with him. I wouldn't talk to him for a few months at a time because I started to expect him to be a depressing buzzkill every time I tried. It's like I was being smothered by all of his negativity and I suddenly felt like crap.

But when you deliberately ruin the humor or fun by being negative about something harmless as a dance-battle, you look like a douchebag.

YES, MOST OF US ALL KNOW ABOUT THE POLICE-BRUTALITY CRAP, DEBBIE. NOBODY FUCKING ASKED FOR UR NEGATIVE OPINION ABOUT COPS, SO CAN U NOT BRING UP THAT DEPRESSING HORRIBLE SHIT? ESPECIALLY WHEN IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS VIDEO? GO BE ANGRILY JUDGEMENTAL AND GENERALIZING SOMEPLACE ELSE, THANKS.
