Description
As I sit, grieving for a passing ageI marvel at time, for it is fleeting
The absence of joy has left me seething
A husk, with naught to push him on but rage
Mirrors do not show the loved, wizened sage
I hoped to be, but instead a vile thing
Damaged before my time, by coarse living
Like a frightful beast circling its lone cage
No friend, no wine now brings me lasting joy
This revelation cuts me like a knife
My mark from childhood was of worthlessness
Of time spent idly, since I was a boy
I failed to gain much in this empty life
And now, resign to die, nevertheless
